Whereas battery boxes were mostly made out of hard rubbers until the 1960s, plastics have mainly been used ever since. In case of batteries with plastic housing gas leaks are reduced thus preventing the corrosion of poles and bridges. They are less likely to break and can be recycled almost completely. The backfire protection included in the seal plugs provides additional safety.
Classic batteries are supplied dry and precharged. The battery is ready for use shortly after filling it with acid – to be ordered separately.
